Public Records Research

Requesting Documents
To request blue prints, technical drawings, or articles of incorporation, researchers must visit the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, at 941 North Capitol Street, NW, in order to obtain an Archives Request Form. Once completed, this form must be faxed to the Office of Public Records at (202) 727-6076 for processing. Requests will be processed and researchers will be contacted to schedule an appointment to review or pick up documents.

Requesting Deed Libers (Books)
To request Recorder of Deeds libers, researchers must visit the Recorder of Deeds Office, at 515 D Street, NW, in order to obtain a DC Archives Liber Request Form. Once completed, this form must be faxed to the Office of Public Records at (202) 727-6076. Requests will be processed and researchers will be contacted to schedule an appointment to review libers or pick up copies of request.

Genealogy Research
Patrons interested in visiting the Office of Public Records to conduct genealogy research must first submit their research interests using the Genealogical Research Form below. Requests will be processed and researchers will be contacted to schedule an appointment to conduct their research or pick up requested documents.

Select one of the forms below to send a specific research request to our reference staff. Please provide the maximum amount of information to ensure optimum research and reference service efforts. Due to the high volume of inquiries the Archives receives on a daily basis, patrons who submit multiple or large requests may experience longer waits.
